Unplugged or what?

Folks,

I am strongly considering changing the URL of this blog. Suddenly, after 3 years – I do not want to be unplugged :)

Three reasons why:
1.     I cannot sing unplugged. I have never been able to understand the unplugged rounds in music shows.
2.     I am done with smiling for the question I get – What do you blog on? Or the classic – Oh, you think you are a celebrity where folks want to know your thoughts unplugged!
3.     I want to be called Arch !

I have been thinking of a change of my url to www.archwrites.blogspot.com. Now, if I do this – what are the disadvantages?

- Will google reader continue to redirect to the new URL?
- Is there a way I can leave a message for users to move to the new URL? I notice some search results for "archieunplugged" :(

Also, if you think all this is too risky, let me know. I will just drop the idea and learn some singing.

  1. Hey, it is not too risky and all :) I am not sure about the blogger re-direction since I don't use blogger but I have seen people doing it. So, you can reach out to blogger users and ask about this :)

As an alternative resort, you can leave a message on this blog for your readers to ask them to move on with you.

    1. I tired :( This address no longer exists when I change the URL. Or , I have to move this blog to Arch Writes, and then leave a message here!

Btw, why are you on self hosted? Any particular reasons?

  2. Unplugged is just fine me thinks.
Unplugged could also mean independent, not plugged into the general way of thinking/blogging.
Unplugged is laid back and informal too.

Archie as in Archie Andrews? Hehe. Every short name should end with a vowel, makes it easier to say it. So Archie it is!

    Why aren't you singing btw?

  5. From what seems to be the description of this blog:

// This blog has started, and is carried out of the ideas that sporadically generate out of one head. At times, it wears out of topics and ideas. //

Sporadic writing, wearing out of topics and ideas - well, unplugged looks more like it ;) archiewrites? ah, everyone writes these days. who's unplugged - both here and on twitter ;)

  6. I usually type 'archieunplugged' whenever I need to access your site, blogger couldn't find your blog some two days back, then again you are back! I think, some regular readers like me would be familiar accessing with the present name. And yeah, the RSS feeds would also be stopped from your old url, they didn't reach my office inbox when you changed to 'archwrites'.. And about this new design, its simple, cool but the older Red color font justified the title 'Myriad hues', Blue is always cool, and Red, colorful.. agree?

  7. Cartic - thanks so much! Red is colourful, true..(scratches head), will change the template again!

  8. First time at your blog & I like the name! If you're not concerned about losing SEO juice, I think you should be fine. Leave a post on this blog saying you've moved and import to a new one. Good luck :)

  9. change of name - why would you even consider that - grumble grumble. Couple of days back when I couldn't find your blog, I was at wits end... reading your blog is my way of gathering my thoughts.... so don't ever consider thinking about a change of name! :)

    3. Eh? Strange! May be you should buy your wife a gift, get your daughter a chocolate, thank womenkind a bit and then try! Ha, just kidding!

No idea why, and I have been getting comments. Very strange!

  10. P.S: Bring back the old "feel" to the blog and resort to the old template

  11. Unplugged sounds good, forget the people who question it. I don't think the redirection will happen unless you purchase a domain name. In the end it won't matter what you call your blog, people will come back for your writing, which is awesome anyway :)

    1. Thanks :) I have no plans of buying a domain for now. And yes, realized I was probably being too hopeful on the redirection bit!

  12. Unless you shift to your own domain, the URL change is not shifted promptly from blogspot to blogspot, as far as I know!

archieunplugged is 'seksier' and cuter and better in all ways than archwrites :)

    1. I so much like the way you have spelt seksier! So cool. You are so akka'ish ( my brother's own term) too!

  13. I too have changed my blog URL. And trust me, it is not a good choice. The blogger doesn't redirect to the new link and you might lose some of your readers who have followed you earlier as they would not get any of your updates. Plus the posts which have been written with the previous URL could only be reached by going through the archives. Widgets like 'link within' would not work.
